THE FOUNDER
Entrepreneur, founder of Atlantic Tech, and the reason Trade Winds Freight exists: he got tired of watching good cargo lose weeks in the gaps between good companies.
Peter Kazan didn't come to freight from freight. He came to it as a customer who kept getting a worse product than the one he'd paid for.
Peter is a Wyoming-based entrepreneur who has spent his career building companies across data intelligence, marketing technology, construction equipment and staffing. His flagship, Atlantic Tech, is an AI-driven data intelligence firm that helps businesses understand and predict consumer behaviour — work that has put him in rooms with operators, suppliers and partners on six continents.
That network is where the idea for Trade Winds Freight started. Running equipment and technology businesses meant moving machinery, components and product across borders, and the same thing happened on every lane: the ocean carrier was fine, the customs broker was fine, the haulier was fine, and the shipment still arrived late because nobody owned the seams between them. Every handoff was someone else's problem. The customer paid for the delay.
Peter had something most shippers don't: years of relationships with people who actually run terminals, brokerages and trucking operations in the markets that matter — Africa, India, Asia, Europe, the Balkans and the Americas. Those contacts were built through business, not through a directory. When a container is stuck in Mombasa or an entry is queried at Nhava Sheva, the person who answers the phone is someone he has worked with before.
"I wasn't trying to start a shipping company. I was trying to get my own cargo delivered without a fight. It turned out the fix was to put one accountable operator across the whole route — and the people I needed for that, I already knew."
PETER KAZAN, FOUNDER
Trade Winds Freight is the result: a carrier-independent freight operator that plans, books, clears and tracks a shipment end to end, using a vetted partner network rather than a fleet of its own. The data discipline comes from Atlantic Tech — lane selection, mode allocation and pricing are driven by live operating data, not a rate card that was accurate last quarter. The reach comes from a decade of relationships.
Peter describes his approach across every company he has built the same way: good, honest business, done with enthusiasm. He is a philanthropist and a patron of the arts, and he lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Trade Winds Freight is headquartered.
